Smallflower Nettle is an erect, perennial herb 0.7-1.5 m, with stem covered with stinging hairs. Leaves are ovate-lanceshaped, 5-8 cm, leaf margin toothed with 15-30 major teeth on each side, teeth 1-3 mm long, occasionally some teeth irregularly toothed with minor teeth about 0.5-1 mm long, leaf base rounded, leaf tip spiny. Leaves are covered with stinging hairs. Leaf-stalks are 2-6 cm long; 4 stipules, forming 2 fused pairs per node, occasionally incised distally, 5-10 mm long, elongated. Plant is monoecious, usually male flowers basal, female flowers apical. Male flowers with tepals about 1.0 mm long, velvet-hairy; female flowers with tepals about 0.2 mm long, velvet-hairy. Smallflower Nettle is found in the Himalayas to W. China, at altitudes of 1000-4500 m. Flowering: All year.
